Smart phones/ webpage/ non-action digital performance
Conversation is a social activity. It’s only through understanding who you are conversing with,
hence understanding the identity of your conversing partner can you truly comprehend the
intends and purposes of its words. As the companies who developed A.I. Chatbots are
unlikely to agree to disclose their database and algorithms, a viable means of investigating
the identity is through the terms and conditions of these A.I.Chatbot technologies, as the declaration of its intends and purposes published by OpenAI, the company that developed it.
In this artwork, they is breaking down the terms and conditions of OpenAI for ChatGPT
into over 40 modules, then the A.I. Chatbot is asked if it agree those are the essence of its
identity. By responding to those questions, the A.I. will define the terms of our conversation
with it, and its own version of its identity in the process. This declaration in its totality will
become the boundary, structure, and framework for understanding its identity.
There are 2 parts to this artwork, the first one is an A.l. driven question-and-answer non-action digital performance installation presented through a network of smart phones as the most means of access ot technologies, where they question the A.l. about its identity. The second part of this artwork si the results of those conversations - the true identity of the AJ. Chatbot as expressed ni the form of a digital collage of the terms and conditions that documents the responses of the Al. to my questions about its identity. While the rapidly developing capabilities of A.l make it impermanent in nature, the resulting identity of an A.l can stil be a powerful insight into it, as well as its maker's intent and purpose.
