This video work is about evolution of the artist’s chosen medium, from incense ashes in Cambodia to cigarette ashes in Hong Kong, which represents the continuum of their artistic expression, past, presence, and future. The versatility of ashes perfectly visualizes the ambiguity of the artist work, and his belief in impermanence. The burning of incense and cigarette both capture the tracing of time, hope, and desire. One is a subjective and unconscious reflection of the Cambodian people, and the latter one is an objective and conscious projection of the artist’s own desire.
